Cathcart maintains steady pace at Peterborough Speedway

Posted: August 20, 2014

Peterborough, ON – Race number five for the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup (L.O.S.C.) series sponsored by Meineke took place at Canada’s toughest third of a mile paved oval – Peterborough Speedway.  It was a scorcher of day and the race was definitely a sizzler!  Fans filled the stands and it was unofficially the largest fan turn out for an L.O.S.C. event this season.

Team 48 made minor adjustments to the car after four quick practice rounds.  Following the national anthem, the L.O.S.C. cars kicked off the night with qualifying, during which the Cathcart Mechanical Performance sponsored #48 Pontiac Grand Prix earned a tenth place start.

The 100 lap L.O.S.C. feature was the final race of the evening.  After the green flag dropped, two cars made contact in turn one quickly bringing out the first caution of the night.  Doug Cathcart Owner/Driver of the #48 Pontiac Grand Prix kept a steady pace throughout the first half of the race, but was passed by the race leader on lap 48 putting him a lap down.

Lap 49 brought out the second caution of the night which gave Cathcart the ‘lucky dog’, a rule that allows the first driver one lap down to automatically get their lap back when a caution is called.

Contact in lap 56 sent Cathcart infield but he proficiently collected the car and quickly returned the #48 Grand Prix to the track.  The contact set Cathcart back a few positions and allowed the leader to quickly gain ground and pass him, once again putting him a lap down.  With the next caution Cathcart was awarded the ‘lucky dog’ for the second time that evening and he continued as a lead lap car for the remainder of the race.

“We made a few adjustments to the car after the last Flamboro race and we’re happy with how it responded”, said Cathcart.  “Once again we're taking the car home intact,” he added.  “It is far better to focus on adjustments than to spend precious shop time making repairs.  It was a solid, clean and steady race and we’re pleased with our eighth place finish.”

Race number six for the L.O.S.C. cars will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at Flamboro Speedway in Millgrove, Ontario.  Pit gates open at 2:00 PM (grandstands at 5:00 PM) and racing starts at 6:00 PM.

See you at the track!
