Rain dampens track, but not spirits!

Posted: July 23, 2014

Millgrove, ON – The return to Flamboro Speedway for race number four of the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup (L.O.S.C.) series sponsored by Meineke, proved to be a challenging one for the #48 Cathcart Mechanical Performance Pontiac Grand Prix.  The rainy, overcast weather postponed Saturday’s race to Sunday, however the skies cleared and the track dried off allowing the event to eventually get underway.

Qualifying placed the 48 Cathcart Mechanical Performance car in 9th position for the start of this mid-season race.  The four L.O.S.C. cars that placed six through nine in qualifying were extremely close in times, with less than three one hundredths of a second spread between the four positions.  “Should have pushed the throttle just a bit more to squeeze out that tiny time difference,” commented Doug Cathcart Owner/Driver of the #48 Pontiac Grand Prix after learning how close the times were.

Similar to the race in Ottawa, it was a night of few cautions and solid driving - until the end.  A series of cautions towards the end of the race caused hefty damage to a number of vehicles.  Cathcart impressively maneuvered the 48 Pontiac Grand Prix through the field of debris allowing the car to be unscathed in the carnage.  An unfortunate event during the final caution resulted in Cathcart driving the last three laps with a flat front tire and finishing the race in eighth position.  “While it wasn’t our best race, we avoided what could have been some serious collisions and brought the car home intact,” commented Cathcart.  “Every race brings new knowledge and this race is no exception.  We’ve got some adjustments planned for Peterborough and we’re really excited to get the car back to the track to see how it responds to the changes we make.”

The L.O.S.C. cars are entering the second half of the season, with race number five on Saturday, August 9th at Peterborough Speedway.  Pit gates open at 2:00 PM (grandstands at 5:00 PM) and racing starts at 6:00 PM.

See you at the track!
