Another top 5 for Cathcart makes it three in a row!!

Posted: July 7, 2014

Ottawa, ON – The Summer Sizzler at Capital City Speedway in Ottawa proved to be another great race for the Cathcart Mechanical Performance Inc. #48.  The third race of the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup (L.O.S.C.) season was certainly a sizzling hot one, with the #48 earning its third top five finish in as many races!

Fans filled the pit grandstands to watch the sportsman stock cars race the Capital City 3/8 mile oval in Team 48’s hometown of Ottawa.  Drivers took advantage of an hour of single car practices followed by two quick 12-lap practice sessions before time trials began.

It was towards the end of practice session number two that Cathcart noted the 48 car was experiencing mechanical issues.  Lacking time to make adjustments, the car went out for time trials ‘as is’ and qualified 10th out of 15 cars.  With pressure mounting and time running out, it was all hands on deck (including the engine builder who just happened to be at the track!) to get the 48 in race-ready condition for the 100 lap feature.

While lining up for driver introductions the team noted an oil leak which had Cathcart return to the pits for more adjustments, forcing him to start the race at the back of the fifteen car line up.  With seconds to spare the crew got the car out on the track before the green flag dropped.

A night of few cautions - and solid steady driving by Cathcart - enabled the 48 car to make its way to the front, capping the day off with a third top five finish.

“There was a point where we didn’t think we would get the car out for the feature,” Cathcart said.  “This is the closest we’ve been to not getting the car on the track and I can’t thank my team enough for their support.  Special thanks to Giles of West Carleton Automotive for jumping in and helping us gain another top five.  They say that good things happen in threes and this race is evidence that the old adage holds true!”

Race number four for the L.O.S.C. cars will be Saturday, July 19th, when they return to Flamboro Speedway in Millgrove, ON.  Pit gates open at 3:00 PM and racing starts at 6:00 PM.

See you at the track!
